Post subject: VB decompiler Existed at one time, RUMOR? website found!
|
|
I found the following info, is this an error, or did this website i found the info on confuse something up?like vb3 decompiler, or some other one?
It says there existed a vb6 decompiler at one time:
"Decompiling Visual Basic
A common question I get from readers is whether there is a decompiler for Visual Basic; that is, a program that can look at an EXE file and extract the source code from it. After doing a bit of research, it appears that there no longer is a VB decompiler available for recent versions of VB. At one point, a company called AshSoft had one; however, they don?t seem to exist any longer. "

Ashsoft was the "U.S. guy", while DoDi is the "German guy". Their decompiler was for VB3.
There are a number of half-way decompilers available for VB5 and/or VB6.
VBReformer and VBEditor seem to be the most well known. [ But RACE is coming up fast, I hope! :) ]

Actually...
Dodi was the creative driving force behind the VB decompilers.
Dodi has written a series of VB3 decompilers, with demo/extended versions. The VB3 decompilers are called VBPDis## and VBDis## with an entire array of supporting tools/utilities... and are still available on the net.
Dodi also wrote a series of tools called VBOpt4, a proto-decompiler/disassembler. These tools, depending on the versions and the datafiles, at first pseudo decompiled VB4 and then later VB5 (though not VB6. ). These tools are far more capable than they have been given credit for...
Most people are not serious enough Reverse Engineers to understand that Dodi released VBOpt4/5 with intentionally crippled/limited opcode definition files and other easily unlocked capablities.
Which brings us to golems_Folly, the only verifiable and as of yet unequaled VB5/VB6 PCode decompiler, whose original sample output posted YEARS AGO is still not duplicated... written by golem , a humble student of Dodi.
Carry on!

Dodi is the reason I learned VB.....I owe Everything to that guy....
I had his decompiler before i knew what VB was.....
Once i found out that i could recompile applications with slight modifications.....I was hooked on programming....
So I owe all the programming I know to Dodi.....in some way or another...
and to do what he did.....would be a very great accomplishment. _________________ -MrU
