RACEVB6 has been updated to revision 4.0:

Updated many opcodes
Added new opcodes
Includes bug fix of 3.9
Added FormMenu to intrinsic control method naming (forgot it in 3.7!)
Added improved error handling for invalid opcodes occurring in unused/incomplete/non-functioning procedures

Yup, still on the RACE thingy. It's up to 4.1 now; the 4.0 (and previous) link downloads a short text file that gives the link to 4.1...that makes it easier for me to update without changing numerous links on all the places I've posted.

Actually, got a 5.0 version, which creates an IDA IDC file. You run 5.0 against the target program, it generates the IDC file, you load the target into IDA, import the IDC file, and it displays all the opcode info right inside the IDA disassembly! So, not only can you trace the program operation step-by-step, you get a running commentary of what each step is doing!

I've also got bitten by the PS2 bug; I'm in to PS2 homebrew. I've actually run a "hello world" of my own on my PS2. I'm even using the RACE website to post (hidden, though) my PS2 stuff. Currently, I've got a working "PS2 development under Cygwin" setup, and I put all the Cygwin and PS2 data in the hidden posts.

So, I'm having fun.

Been a while.

Got a sort of undecided question here....

I've update Race (actually, quite a while back) to Rev 6. The jump from 4.x to 6.x (obviously I skipped 5.x) was specific and deliberate; I wanted to implement a significant(?) new feature, not just a bug fix,etc. The new feature allows Race to create an IDC script file that can be loaded into the IDA debugger. Now, you can not only see the VB in IDA, you can read the text descriptions of each opcode and GUI attribute while you step/trace the program. Basically, I've embedded the output from Race, into IDA.

My concern is, how legal is this, given that I'm not paying DataRescue (the IDA people) any thing? The most I do is mention that IDA is a registered/trademarked program; particularly if I feel that Rev 6 is such a significant update that I want to sell it, using the "I can do IDA!" concept as a major selling point. Do you think DataRescue can start any actions against me for making what is essentially an equivalent to a third-party support program and selling that program without consulting them, or getting their permission, etc? As far as I know, the other third-party programs for IDA are available for free, so I can see DataRescue accepting their existance. But if those third-party programs are purchased, can DataRescue complain about the programmers making money off the IDA name?

Any legal beagles out there?

I would say your fine. You are creating a IDA script/plugin which they support and allow. I would think they would even welcome it because it promotes their product as well. And if someone were to see that RACE supports IDA script files they might purchase IDA just for that extra information. I think just acknowledging the trademark is good, just mention on the website and the software itself.
