Hi everybody in this private forum!
I am very honered that I can be a part of this very exclusive VB-decompiler-group. Also because at the time of writing I'm not working on my UFO-project till December and my homepage is more down than up, and still I was asked to be a member here, thanks.
Since this is a private forum, I could tell some details about myself. My real name is Erwin Lips, not Justin Sane, that's just a name I stole from a guy at Napster 2 years ago. I'm 19 years old (19 august 1983) and live in a small village in The Netherlands (in Europe).
Of cource I like computers (like all of us). I started when I was 13 by playing games in DOS. And at the time I was ready to learn DOS-batch-files, I discovered QuickBasic. The Dutch version of QB came with DOS, so I could learn the Basic-language in my own language. Later got the english verion with the compiler in it. Much later (2.5 years ago), I got the illegal version of VB5. Made some stupid programs for a year and 1.5 years ago I started a Virus Wizard, just a stupid program that created a fake virus (more a worm) based on the user input. I got some bad comments on it, saying that it was not a real virus. So I planned to make a virus that adds itself to PE-executables (back then I thought that was easy to do in VB). I figured that I would have to understand the PE-header to make the virus work, but after using some PE-viewing tools (like PE-Explorer), I still didn't understand it.
But I now got enough information about PE-files to make a PE-viewing tool myself. So a year ago I started my UFO-project, just cause PE-Explorer sucks. UFO stands for Ultimate File Optimizer, and it works too, PE-files get smaller when UFO is done with them, and I also added support for other files, like bitmaps. Very cool, but still the PE-files made with VB5 seemed to big. I had to use a hex-editor to delete all that stupid info out of it (like location of the VBP-file). I wanted my UFO-program to delete that stuff, but couldn't find any real documentation. And eventually half a year ago, I got to decompiler.com where I found a little documentation about the structure.
I can't believe you're still reading this, don't you have something better to do? Anyway, I hope you know enough about me now, if not then just ask.
Justin Sane

Sorry to inform you....but this is not a private forum....at least not currently...
i deleted most of your post...i can put it back if you feel u dont care....
If we get enough people here that would like the forum private....then I will make it private.
There are several key people that i think would bring a lot of insite to this forum....but may not like the idea of a private forum.....
Feel free to post your opinions on the matter

If this is not private, why does this whole forum exist then? Why not just keep everything in the Decompiler.com forum?

Decompiler.com is more general and I encourage everyone to continue to go to there....
I would just like a more indepth set of forums.....thats why i made this site...
Not too long ago it was here....and i was hosting it....but my server crashed and i lost pretty much everything.....so now i am hosting through another company....
Like i said.....eventually the Forum may become private....it is up to the users.

Well this is my first post here, but i thought it was warranted, however useful my view on this is, I think this forum would be better off being private, that way we have more adbility to speak freely and share knowledge, personally i feel uncomfortable at the thought of just anyone reading everything i say Just an idea, looking forward to working with you guys though.

Why so Devine? I guess we could have a section that is private for the more sensitive stuff. I believe that we can share knowledge more sucessfully if everyone was able to view it and join if they care to participate etc.

Careful....who is going to define what is "more sensitive"? I think the best
interest can be satisfied if the levels/condition/rules relate to the degree to which you support this effort; "gimmees" should never make it, those-who-want-to-learn can view and ask questions, those who have answers are welcome. This may required having both private and public areas; the public areas for posting questions, the private areas so no one can mess up the data with a malicious post (but still be readable). Anything else should be outside the scope of this MB; we don't want it to degrade into a "I'm smarter than you are" fiasco. Also, of course, we need a way to limit the discussions so they don't interfere with the actual data we want to present.
Welcome new-comers.
sarge
PS: the PCode stuff is starting to shape up...keep up the good work. I can appreciate the tremendous effort that it takes.

I think you all have a point, perhaps i was too quick to judge, I think the way the board is setup now is suiting.
